Guess what?? Sara came across THE recipe! Taste tested and approved by Mickey Hervey! The woman who had put it on the web said she got it from a Karo Syrup bottle :)
Here it is in case you’re interested:

Makes 1 pie

1 Cup Dark Karo
1 Cup Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
3 Large Eggs
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
1 9 inch Pie Shell

Blend the corn syrup, sugar, eggs and peanut butter and pour into the unbaked crust.
Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Then cover the edge of the pie crust with tin foil and lower the temp to 350 degrees and continue baking 35 – 40 minutes more.
The center should look wobbly, it will set as the pie cools. Let cool for at least 3 hrs.
Sara’s thinking about running a ribbon of jelly through the pie and then topping with chocolate ice cream … what do you think? Feel Free to Comment…

Borrowed Time
Words and Music by Jay Marinacci

WHEN I LOOK IN THE FACES OF THE CHILDREN AT THEIR PLAY
I CAN STILL SEE THE SUNSHINE OF A LONG FORGOTTEN DAY
THEY TELL ME 1T’S NOT OVER YET BUT THAT’S ALL THEY CAN SAY
I TURN AND HURRY DOWN THE ROAD SILENTLY AWAY

WHEN I CLOSE MY EYES I CAN STILL SEE CLEARLY ON THE EDGES OF MY PAST
THE SHATTERED GLOW OF TIMELESS MAN AND A THOUGHT THAT WOULDN’T PASS
A VOICE IS ECHOING THROUGH MY SOUL AND THE FLAGS ARE AT HALF-MAST
I CAN’T REMEMBER IF I ATE LAST NIGHT, OR WHERE I SLEPT

BORROWED TIME IS ALL WE’VE GOT TODAY
BORROWED TIME LIKE A NEEDLE IN THE HAY
YES I KNEW SOME PEOPLE ONCE AND THEY THOUGHT LIKE ME
YES I KNEW SOME PEOPLE ONCE AND THEY TAUGHT LIKE ME
YES I KNEW SOME PEOPLE ONCE AND THEY FOUGHT LIKE ME

I CAN HEAR THEM COMIN’ I CAN HEAR THEM COMIN’
BOUT’ A MILE OUTTA TOWN I GOTTA’ KEEP ON MOVIN
OR I SURELY WILL BE FOUND OILMAN, GOLDMAN, TAX WILL YOU TELL
ME WHERE I’M BOUND?
YA SEE THEY AIN’T LIVIN ON BORROWED TIME
THEY TOOK IT FROM US
AND THEY TOOK IT FROM OUR GROUND

BORROWED TIME IS ALL WE’VE GOT TODAY
BORROWED TIME, TIME TO FIND A BETTER WAY
BORROWED TIME IN THE GROUND WE’RE GONNA LAY
YES I KNEW SOME PEOPLE ONCE AND THEY THOUGHT LIKE ME
YES I KNEW SOME PEOPLE ONCE AND THEY TAUGHT LIKE ME
YES I KNEW SOME PEOPLE ONCE AND THEY FOUGHT LIKE ME

I’m guessing it was around 1990 when my sister Janie hosted the Spelker Family Reunion. (What a great party that was!) When I asked what I should bring, Janie said, why don’t you write a song? So I did. I wrote Lovin’ Family for Janie and played it for the first time at the Family Reunion.
