Above The IGNORANCE

The Suitcase

Quoted from http://www.abovetheignorance.org/:

Above The IGNORANCE – The truth and ONLY the truth about Marijuana.

Why millions of people makes their lives easier every day.

Getting “high” isn’t “bad.” Though you may not realize it, eating meat or candy or fried foods or vegetables or drinking coffee, tea, or soda all affect your mental state. All of these things can make you “high”.

We don’t yet know all of the benefits of marijuana; the government has tried for years to prove that it is harmful and has consistently failed. Very few studies have explored its benefits due to the laws surrounding it.

Legality isn’t a good enough reason for you to not smoke. Slavery was once legal and sodomy was once illegal; legality is a horrid barometer for morality.

Nobody has ever died from smoking pot (please feel free to prove us wrong).

Over 400,000 people a year die from tobacco in the United States.
Over 100,000 people a year die due to alcohol.

Marijuana use does not cause brain damage.

Analysis of Studies Finds Little Effect From Long-Term Use
Marijuana boosts brain cell growth
Marijuana might cause new cell growth in the brain
Marijuana-like drug multiplies neurons

Marijuana does not cause cancer.

Study performed by Fred Gardner
John Hopkins Medical School study
Donald Tashkin of the University of California

The largest study of its kind has unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer.

Study Finds No Cancer-Marijuana Connection

Marijuana has both stalled the growth of and eliminated tumors in rats. Such an experiment has yet to be done on humans.

Marijuana fights hardened arteries.

Marijuana can prevent blindness in Glaucoma patients.

Famous Blue Raincoat

The Suitcase

So I sit down at the computer to start work this morning and grab my guitar to play a couple tunes. I played a few originals and finished with Famous Blue Raincoat and First We Take Manhatten. My only 2 Leonard Cohen songs. Then I switch on the radio to get back to work and on KVMR, Jerianne Van Dijk is Interviewing Jennifer Warnes on the telephone. WAH!
Jennifer is re-releasing Famous Blue Raincoat Digitally Re-Mastered. I want it. You need it.

Leonard Cohen

Anthony BourdainOMG! Have you ever noticed how much Anthony Bordain resembles Leonard Cohen?
Me either! This is Leonard Cohen on the left.

The first LC song I remember was Bird On a Wire on Rita Coolidge’s first record. I didn’t really know he wrote it until I bought the Jennifer Warnes album Famous Blue Raincoat. Yeah I like singin chick songs, so what?

I am getting better recordings here at my computer these days and it’s fun! I used Adobe Audition and did 2 tracks in 2 takes and just left it. Who has time for tinkering these days.

The Suitcase Sessions

The Suitcase

Steelhed’s got a cousin named George the II. They call him Deuce, but his Tattoo says “DUCE”. So Ms. Melon and I have taken to calling Mike the III, “Tray”. Hey! Leave us alone we do what we want.!

Tray lives quite a few states away so we like to do a little something special together when we can get a chance to visit.

So on November 27th and 28th 2005 we went into Psycho Studio Records and cut a song we had never done before together, but Tray had heard me play literally since his conception.
I was totally knocked out by his performance. He picked up the solo I was meandering through and sweetened it up and handed it to Vince, who, kicked ass on drums bass and electric guitar. It was a totally awesome and cherished experience and dang if the song didn’t turn out purdy darn good too. What a hoot!

We Brake For Jake

Local Music, The Suitcase

We Brake For Jake

My friend Jenny is totally cool. She’s got herself a real nice yungun too name a Jake. They’ve got themselves a swell gig over there at the KVMR every other Wednesday which includes Jake’s Beatle Show. I remember the first time I ever heard it I was driving out by the fairgrounds and I’m like whoa that’s a little kid doing a Beatles Show on the radio! He musta been 12 at the time. I believe it was the Trailer Park Troubadors that came up with the bumper sticker I tried to recreate here. Congratulations Jake on graduating High School!
Concert For GeorgeWell, last year Jake’s School Choir raised money for a trip to Spain by doing an All Beatles Benefit at The Center for the Arts. (Why yes, yes I have played The Center for the Arts).

Millennial Summer

The Suitcase

I first met Sue during Mrs. Kirshbaum’s Drama Class at Casa Roble High School in 1972.
She was funny, loud, talented, cute, and 13.
Sue at 13Platform shoes were all the rage and Sue said she wanted some platform beach sandals. So, Adam and I made her a pair by nailing some 2×4 scraps to some beachwalker sandals. She loved them.
One day I am cutting one class or another and Sue asks me if I can give her a ride home. She was being sent home for indecent exposure. I’m like, yes I can give you a ride. I had no car, but how was I going to turn down this helpless little girl in the Handkerchief Halter Top? Well, we had just figured out how to start Tom’s Volkswagon with a nail clipper and I figured he wouldn’t mind under the circumstances what with her bein in need and all…

Mike 15

Not long after that Sue left home and I joined the Army, it was the Fall of 1973.

In the Fall of 1975, I was crossing the street to the Jack In The Box when someone hollered “MIKE HERVEY!!”.
It was Susie, all growed up and what not. She had with her the biggest woman in the state at the time, a gal name o’ Laura Dern or somethin’.
We all had a snack and I got her phone number so’s to call her up to go on a date. We did just that and continued dating right on into our country’s Bi-Centennial Year. Little Red BugWe broke up after a few months and only had contact once more a year or 2 later when I called her up and made a sort of bad joke. I never knew her name was Sara Sue.

22 years later…

Sara Sue, an IT Program Manager at a large bank in California is surfing the Classmates.com website and comes accross ol’ Hervey living in Small Town, Ohio doing Web Developement. An email goes out and soon plane tickets are purchased and “it’s on” in the late Summer of the year 2000. By February I had moved in with Sara at her place in California ready to start a new life and on Valentines Day 2001 I wrote this song for Sara Sue.
